Conversion Tracking Explained

Conversion tracking records outcomes that matter to the business and associates them with marketing activity. The most important work happens before the dashboard: defining what counts as a conversion and how it will be reconciled.

Choose the right conversion events

A purchase is usually stronger than an add-to-cart. A qualified booked call is stronger than a raw form submission. B2B funnels may need multiple events such as demo booked, opportunity created and closed-won.

Attach useful context

Where appropriate and permitted, conversion records can include value, currency, timestamp, product, lead stage or customer identifier. Keep event definitions stable so reports are comparable over time.

Deduplicate browser and server events

If the same purchase is sent from both browser and server, use a consistent event ID or platform-supported deduplication method so it is not counted twice.

Reconcile against the backend

Compare tracked conversions with ecommerce, billing or CRM records. Investigate missing events, duplicate events, refunds and timezone differences before making attribution conclusions.
