Ecommerce Attribution: Measure Acquisition, Repeat Purchases & Channels
Ecommerce attribution gets difficult when acquisition spans several paid channels and customer value extends beyond the first purchase. A useful system should separate new-customer acquisition from retention while still reconciling to store revenue.
Start with the business questions
- Which channels acquire new customers profitably?
- Which campaigns drive first purchases rather than repeat revenue?
- How should subscription renewals or repeat orders be treated?
- How much credit should branded search or retargeting receive?
Track the order correctly
Use stable order IDs, gross/net revenue definitions, refunds and customer status. If the revenue source is wrong, attribution will be wrong too.
Know when specialist platforms fit
Triple Whale and Northbeam are often evaluated because their workflows are ecommerce-centric. HYROS and Cometly may be considered when advertisers also need cross-funnel journey tracking and conversion feedback.
